Find Yahoo Mail Problems in Q&A
How do I get Yahoo to respond to Mail problems? I have had so many problems with Yahoo Mail it almost is impossible to decide where to begin. Mainly, "Nicknames" do NOT work when I Compose new messages. Yahoo simply fills in the nickname in the To/cc/Bcc box, and when I sent it, it isn't valid (of course). I've resorted to clicking on the "To" link in front of the box to bring up a Contacts page, then choose from that. But none of that should be necessary, at least according the Yahoo's own information page (click on nickname). Yahoo's Help is almost totally useless, and there's no information about how to contact them to report bugs in THEIR software. Until these past few months, I've been happy with Yahoo Mail, but not anymore. Just too many problems, and no good way to report them without some limit on characters typed.

shadowdancr17 replied: "I've had success with Yahoo's customer care service- try: mail.cc.yahoo-inc.com or help.yahoo.com hope this helps."

david w replied: "i totally agree! for the past month or so i've been having the EXACT same problem with nicknames (it will not recognize them - i actually have to either reply to someone or go into addresses and cut n paste them into the To: section), PLUS i'm often unable to download attachments, which has also never happened before. sometimes they disappear at the bottom of the email so there's nothing to click on. very annoying and very weird. pls let me know if you hear anything."

How can I contact someone at Yahoo concerning Yahoo Mail problems? Is there a Customer Service email site? Also, what is the difference between Yahoo Classic Mail and Yahoo Mail Plus? Can I use Mail Plus with Mail Classic? Is there a phone number for customer service issues?

Mr.Nick replied: "If you are having problems with your email and need technical help contact customer care at: Yahoo! Mail Technical Help Form Yahoo! Customer Service 866-562-7219 408-349-3300 408.349.1572 The E-Mail address for Yahoo!customer care is or Hope some of this info helps!!!"

Is anyone else having yahoo mail problems? Been searching trying to retrieve old email cant. 1/2 hr ago went to live chat and no one came on after 10 mins hung up. Error message keeping getting in yahoo mail. >>>We are currently working on a fix for this problem; please try again later.

ardentmus replied: "Yes, I'm having problems. My inbox and files won't open so I can't get to my emails. Same thing happened with me on the chatline.... I'm furious!!!!! Any suggestions"

Kenneth S replied: "I have not been able to access my yahoo e-mail since this afternoon (Pacific Time). It just quit working. Has your's come back on yet?"

timco42 replied: "Yes. Mine has been getting steadily worse for a week. I think I've sent in 100+ Error5 and Error14 messages. Can't open email, can't move messages around to folders, delete, etc. The online chat folks are swamped at certain times, which is a good sign, if they are listening. I'm sick of this crap but changing all my contacts to a Gmail account will be a drag, so I'm waiting a few more days. Now I know why it's called Yahell."

J. R replied: "I have been getting errors for over a week now. I finally got someone in chat last night and she said that they are working on fixing the problem. They are supposed to have a system upgrade / fix on March 13th. I can try to wait until then but another week or so of this and I am moving to a different company. By the way, I asked the online help tech if this had anything to do with them being stupid and adding Chat to Yahoo Classic and she said no."

bubs replied: "Yes it started acting up about 2 weeks ago and getting worse. It is extremely frustrating. I am not impressed with the mail search function at all. It rarely finds emails that I "know" are in there. Seems to only go back a short time. I think my days with yahoo mail are coming to an end."

Tony and Tammy V replied: "I can't even get to "my yahoo" now! I googled "yahoo problems" and found your question in the search results. Oh and last night I couldn't get into my email either. So you aren't the only one! Yahoo!!!! Hellooooooo!!!!! anybody out there???? grrr.."

Erika Z replied: "I am having the same problem the yahoo home page comes up but when I sign in to check my mail it says page cannot be displayed."

suzette a replied: "I can pick up e-mails, but cannot send or respond. Instead get the "string of letters" and then deletes..I reported but no answered from Yahoo. Glad someone else is experiencing this problem"

JEREMY replied: "I'm having the same sort of problems. I can get my email, but can't respond to or compose any new emails. When I try to empty my spam folder the messages don't go away until I open another folder. It all started a few days ago and is very annoying. I think it was around the time that stupid chat thing showed up. I even tried to upgrade to the new version, I still run yahoo classic, that didn't help at all. In fact I couldn't even get my inbox to show up. Again, this is VERY ANNOYING!"

Is Yahoo having problems with their outgoing mail servers? I use the Mac mail program to check my yahoo mail. Seems that lately my outgoing mail is taking a very long time to arrive at the email address I sent to. If I send from the Yahoo site it arrives quickly to the person I sent to. Could this be a pop outgoing mail server problem?

Patrick M replied: "I use yahoo pop mail and it has been extremely problematic for over a week. I would appreciate if someone could tell me if there is a reason for the most recent issues."

cannigia.geo replied: "i'm experiencing the same problems... take like 4 hours for a mail to get there"

David T replied: "Yeah same kinda thing here. I'm using Entourage on a Mac. Can receive from yahoo but can't send. Am assuming the server is playing up. i.e. it's down!... Has happened before but not for ages. I'm going to sit tight rather than start fiddling with any settings. Dave"

William C replied: "I have had this issue for the past few days as well. It has been taking 14 hours or so for my mail to get to the people I send it to. I was on the phone for an hour yesterday w/ yahoo and their rep was worthless. Edit: I emailed the issue to yahoo. I suggest you all do the same if you want the problem resolved. Edit 2: I just got off the phone w/ yahoo. Apparently all of us with the problem have to pay them to upgrade our account. The "smtp.mail.yahoo.com" servers are being eliminated so we can either wait 3-5 days for someone to fix the server or give them more money and have the problem resolved now."

steve lee replied: "I'm using Outlook 2003 as my mail client for a yahoo address and for the last two days email has been very slow to arrive when I send from Outlook (if it has arrived at all). I can now receive mail but not send from Outlook I'm getting error 0x80042109: 'Outlook is unable to connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server and so am tempted to change email account settings and ports. V. frustrating. anyone having these issues?"

jandianajones replied: "My outgoing mail through Outlook does not work at all, for over a week now! I get the same error messages. If I need to send an email, I have to go online to Yahoo mail, and that works. Problem is, I use Outlook for handling mail, contacts, tasks, calendar, etc. So having to stop everything, go online, navigate to yahoo email, pull up the incoming letter, then reply, is a pain. Incoming mail works fine. I hope they get outgoing mail issue resolved soon! (PS. Using xp, outlook 2003)"

Rich H replied: "Very BIG problems at Yahoo--on my laptop and my wife's, one with Outlook 2003 and one upgraded yesterday to Outlook 2007. It took from 10:18 a.m. yesterday morning when she sent me a message until 4:03 a.m. this morning for Yahoo to deliver it--and we both use Yahoo Email. Incoming working fine--nothing will go out from either my Outbox or from the Send button on the task bar. I have been having problems for a least a week--sporadic episodes which have now degenerated into "permanent" sending issues. Yahoo should broadcast a message detailing the issues they are having!"

Brian P replied: "Same problems for me--on a PC with Outlook 2003--with delayed and failed messages (sometimes when Outlook says it was sent successfully) in the past week, and now today I get an error message saying that my outgoing server SMTP doesn't support SSL-secured connections. It has always worked in the past with the settings I have. Sorry that I don't have answers yet! Sounds like a Yahoo problem."

H K B replied: "aaaagggghhhhhhhh you think it's just today I mean talk about trouble with Yahoo email. Over teh last month i have had the same trouble!! Some emails are taking a week to get places. Ok vented. I guess i'm not alone. This is however rather poor! Yahoo, please at least tell us you are working on known porblems and we may be a little more RELAXED about it. It could ofcourse be Microsoft revenge for not accepting their offer! Cynical? Me?"

I have been having problems with Yahoo mail for several days now. Tried all the usual, anyone know what's up? I am having problems on separate machines, with XP and Vista. I have scanned for viruses and spyware and re-booted several times. The forums suggest many users are having related problems leading me to conclude it is a Yahoo problem (and now I cannot contact the Yahoo customer centre due to the latest manifestation). Anyone know any detail or have any further suggestions?

naturist replied: "Well, Phil, you are by no means alone. If you look at the number of similar questions posted on here about this very issue you will see that there are an awful lot of us who cannot access our Yahoo Mail. One must presume that Yahoo are aware of this problem so my question is, Why haven't they posted something about this on the Yahoo home page? It would save us all from trying to access our emails and just having a long wait with no result."

royer_slater replied: "There's been a huge increase in spam emails for US pharmacies recently. I wonder if they are overloading Yahoo? I've no problems accessing Yahoo emails via Thunderbird."

Jessie48 replied: "I agree Yahoo should have put something on their News page or home page by now. What is the alternative? I want to access my mail and can't. I don't know of any other way to get at them apart from the Outlook - and that doesn't have access to them either so what to do? I to have been trying since last night and tried on a two laptops. So its not our fault, it must be Yahoo's."

Neil M replied: "It'll sort itself out eventually. It always does. In the meantime, you can get access through the mobile site: It looks crude but it works as a last resort."

Ooops replied: "Yahoo is still having some problems at the moment. Suggested cures range from Update Adobe Flash Player and Java script to clear IE7 cache, cookies, and browsing history. Different things seem to work for different people. It's causing attachments to not show, 999 errors where it won't let you do a particular action and some people cannot send receive delete or move mail. It's not just Vista either it's happening to some of us on XP. If all else fails go back to classic mail via this link. click yes when asked do you want to opt out. Hope this helps."

Please help with my yahoo mail problems? My yahoo mail has gone mad. Contacts have dissapeared, when I click to open a mail, it directs me to sent, and when I hit reply it no longer takes me into the box ready to type. What's happened? please help. My mails that I send bcc to a large group, are also not reaching people. any ideas?

Steven C replied: "Lately, and not to bash Yahoo, the quality has gone down a bit and there have been a few mess ups with both the mail service and IM. The second one is you may have a virus, I would suggest doing a virus scan and see if that returns anything."

Ol'grizzler replied: "It's an ongoing problem Yahoo are working on. There is an excellent thread with a lot of information on the subject on the forum. Many people have put various things to try but it is a Yahoo fault not our computers.Yahoo staff have commented on this thread. "

Sumit S replied: "no"

Mezmarelda replied: "Ya, what's going on?"

Traci L replied: "No I haven't...if you're having problems daily it could be your browser settings or something"

livewell replied: "yep, i havent been getting any e-mail and normally it is constant. I think it has to do with people shopping on-line for x-mas"

nichola replied: "It seems a bit slow today."

julie replied: "Yeah i have not been able to get my yahoo mail, it's a pain in the ass."

cookie replied: "i had the same problem a few weeks ago but i fixed it. yahoo recently did an update to their messenger and its not working properly, causing problems with email for a lot of people. you may want to do as i did to fix it. uninstall that version of messenger and re-download the original.(you wont loose any of your settings) go to start, control panel, add/remove programs. scroll down the list until you see yahoo messenger, highlight it, move to the right and remove it. then go to the internet and download yahoo messenger 7.0 (or 7.1) then reboot your computer and try your yahoo mail again. hope this helps, good luck."

Merry Christmas replied: "I do once in awhile it does for some reason."

Madfan replied: "Yes, i've not been able to get mail all day!"

northcarrlight replied: "It has been slow for me, nothing unusual with this computer mind"

Hala replied: "Yes i have been having the same problems with yahoo today, & its been driving me mad. I also agree with the others who say yahoo is getting worse with its inconsistant performance."

theresa t replied: "yes been having problems all day today and many other days have been trying everything to open mail"

coyle2007 replied: "nope it seems to be working for me on the internet and my phone"

sandeep m replied: "Yes, yesterday and I got fed up. Lost many points and good questions to answer."

RAINBOW replied: "Yes since Wednesday"

piggy replied: "im pretty mad also. for the last 2 wks. nothing but problems. the past 2 days I can check mail but I cant delete, or do anything else. I am switching to gmail but I cant even get my contacts switched over since nothing will open on yahoo."

James B replied: "Recently I have found email is taking up to 24 hrs to reach my inbox. Also access to the service or specific facilities is failing with increasing frequency. Seems to point to overload. Until now I have always had excellent service levels."

Have you been experiencing problems opening yahoo mail? Im still having problems with opening yahoo mail. Anyone else having problems? For the past 3 days, i cant open up my mail. I log on and everything, but cant view my inbox.

emichelle1113 replied: "Yahoo and IE seem to be incompatible right now at medium to high cookie settings. You may access Yahoo Mail with a different browser, such as Firefox. Just type yahoo.mail.com in the address bar. I am able to get through with Firefox, and I hope you can too. Or, you can set your cookies at the lowest possible setting, and that should work too. It bugs me to have to do this, but at least it will help you get your emails if you are browsing with Internet Explorer. You can always reset your cookies after accessing your email."

bit of a dawg replied: "I have the same problem. I've tried 2 different computers and 3 different browsers. It has been down for 3 days also."

jckcs78 replied: "I am happy to hear that I am not the only one. I thought that it was my computer messing up. I did not know what to do. Thanks."

Why is it so hard to find somebody to help with Yahoo mail problems? It is impossible to find anyone to help me get into my mail. I forgot the answer to the security/confirmation question that I had listed. I have done all kind of searches and cannot find any way to get imediate help to get into my account. Is there a way to get instant help to get my mail? It is extremely important because of family illness that I get this mail now.

ZER0 C00L™ replied: "You can fill out this "Online Help" form, which lets Yahoo know that you're experiencing a problem, and wait for a reply from Yahoo Customer Support:"
